Oudezijds Voorburgwal

The Oudezijds Voorburgwal  (en=’old-before-the-citadel-canal’), a canal with just a few windows. The Oudezijds Voorburgwal is something like a start of the Redlight District. At both sides of this canal you can find a lot of alleys with windows.

At this site is the small part of the Wallen with coffeeshop ‘the Bulldog’ as main attraction. ‘The Bulldog’ is also as bar, souvenirshop and bike-rental established here.
The Bulldog is the first, and oldest, coffeeshop of Amsterdam. More Bulldogs coffeeshops can be found al over the city-centre of Amsterdam like the ´Leidseplein´ where they started a huge coffeeshop in the old policestation. 😉

The small part of the wallen is 6 small streets filled with girls, girls, girls (and some ladyboys).
The smallest alley you can pass is the ‘Trompettersteeg’. If you blink your eyes, you’ll miss the entrance! It’s next to the Bulldog Coffeeshop.
The Oudekerksplein is a part of this canal. The alderman wants to close this part of the Wallen but for now; it’s still open! a few windows are closed and temparary occupied by designers.

At the Oudezijds Voorburgwal you can have a beer or two at one of the bars. If you cross the Oudekerksplein towards Central Station there is Cafe Emmelot at the corner of the Oudezijds Voorburgwal and the ´Lange Niezel´.
Opposite Emmelot is a FEBO, genuine snacks can be bought here from ´the vending machines in the wall´. Try a Grillburger, nice veal meat, lettuce and good sauce on a roll! You can change at the counter. Changers are serviced alsways immediatly! If you want to try something local at Febo try the ´Speciaaltje´. Nice prices for the easy snacks at FEBO and always fresh. More FEBO´s can be find through Amsterdam.

At the Lange Niezel there are bars, restaurants, daily supermarkets, kebabshops, sexshops and more commercial activities. Nice to walk here too!

You walk safely around here and cross the water by one of the small bridges to continue your sightseeing at the RLD.
