The Oudezijds Voorburgwal (en=’old-before-the-citadel-canal’), a canal with just a few windows. The Oudezijds Voorburgwal is something like a start of the Redlight District. At both sides of this canal you can find a lot of alleys with windows to the Oudezijds Achterburgwal, the heart of the Main district.
At this site is coffeeshop ’the Bulldog’ as main attraction. ‘The Bulldog’ is also as bar, souvenir shop and bike-rental established here. The Bulldog is the first, and oldest, coffeeshop of Amsterdam. More Bulldogs coffeeshops can be found al over the city-centre of Amsterdam like the ´Leidseplein´ where they started a huge coffeeshop in the old policestation. 😉
The smallest alley of Amsterdam is the ‘Trompettersteeg’. If you blink your eyes, you’ll miss the entrance! It’s next to the Bulldog Coffeeshop. There used to be windows here but that part is closed bij the Mayor. The Oudekerksplein is a part of this canal. At the Ouderkerksplein there are several windows. The Mayor wants to close this part of the Wallen too but for now; it’s still open!
At the Oudezijds Voorburgwal you can have a beer or two at one of the bars. If you cross the Oudekerksplein towards Central Station there is Café Emmelot at the corner of the Oudezijds Voorburgwal and the ‘Lange Niezel’.
Opposite café Emmelot is a FEBO, genuine snacks can be bought here from ´the vending machines in the wall´. At the Lange Niezel there are bars, restaurants, daily supermarkets, kebabshops, sexshops and more commercial activities. Nice to walk here too!
You walk safely around here and cross the water by one of the small bridges to continue your sightseeing at the RLD.
